So this is how it happened...

We got the ring back from Zales on Monday. All that was left to do was have our annual New Year's Eve party and wait until Erik proposed. Our party was great...with the exception of having to clean the house for days beforehand. We were playing Trivial Pursuit 80's Edition when the countdown to midnight began. Everyone was counting and Erik took the little box out of his computer desk. Right at midnight he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes, and even though it wasn't a surprise, I still cried. It was so sweet. Bailey was jumping up and down and my friends were clapping. It couldn't have been any better.

So now we have the wedding to plan. Some must haves:

1. Bailey has to be there. His father secretly married 5 weeks after our divorce without his son there. I thought that was really tacky and sneaky. My son will be front and center on my wedding day...because it's his life that's changing too.

2. Laid back and informal. I don't like weddings, mine or anyone else's. Ceremonies annoy me...and stress me out. I don't do weddings or graduations and I hate funerals. I'm weird that way. However, I do want something for my family and Erik's family to attend...even it's just really small and casual.

3. Sixty pounds less. I'm not about to make a resolution this year after getting everything I've ever wanted, but I do need to lose weight. 60 pounds won't get it all off me, but it will definitely make me feel better. I'm the worst diet slacker there is...wish me luck on this one.

Any ideas on this stuff??

For health reasons this last year I have had to make a massive change in my diet. Sadly there is nothing easy about it. The best thing I can suggest is to focus on the short term and keep a lot of low calorie yucky vegetables about like carrots and celery for snacking. Small steps.

Congratulations on your pending nuptials.

Informal weddings are nice. A back yard BBQ/buffet with a game of baseball after the exchange of vows in the garden among the summer flowers?

About the diet thing: The thing that has helped me the the most is SparkPeople. http://www.sparkpeople.com/ It is more motivation than anything with articles and exercises and you can track what you eat and how much you exercise and read articles and talk to other people. And the best thing it it is free. (My profile name is ShanaM11 if you are interested.

I agree with you on the wedding ideas- it's all about you and your family-
No need to go and spend a bazillion dollars on one day- just to stress yourself to no end beforehand.

uh- the diet thing-
Like Laoch says- baby steps. Work with 5 pounds at a time. Take soda out of your diet all together- and eat small meals throughout the day to build up your metabolism versus 3 large meals.
One trick I was taught- don't finish your plate- eat until you're full- and stop there. My momma has been trying to get to 185- and she's getting there. she's at 273 now (she is however 5'11" and can be bigger) she started at 315 about 6 months ago.
Good luck sweetie- and congratulations!

Elope....we were married by a photag in Eureaka Springs.
Count Calories...it helps me to stay on track. 1500 Calories and less than 15 grams of fat.

what was the other???

Oh yeah...even if you elope...you can still have your son with you...just send him home with relatives and finish honeymooning.

Lossing weight is hard. You have to eat right and you have to exercise. Eating small meals helps because you never really have to be hungry.

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. That's AWESOME!

I'm pretty advice-less on both topics but I do want to wish you luck.

Best wedding I ever went to was small and simple. A friend commented about going to a BBQ recently that was really a surprise wedding, they hadn't told anyone. How fun would that be? I'll be a weight loss buddy with you if you want...
